Helium cooling characteristics for superconducting devices

宗 占国 (Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF))

Abstract:Superconducting devices are mandatory and play a fundamental role in some large machines, such as fusion power plants and high energy accelerators (circular or linear). In general, low-temperature superconducting system must be cooled to below 10 K and high critical temperature superconductor may operate in the temperature range of 30 to 80 K. Helium is usually employed as the main cryogen to cool SC devices. This paper presents the cooling characteristics of helium at different states, such as saturated, subcooled, supercritical, superfluid states. The temperature ranges, flow conditions and specific application will be introduced.
