Abstract:Maintaining a stable phase boundary between the concentrated and dilute phases is a key challenge for space dilution refrigerators under microgravity. To overcome this challenge, a porous-material-based phase confinement concept is proposed, in which the mixing chamber is divided into a concentrated-phase region and a dilute-phase region. A physical model was established and evaluated using 2D axisymmetric multiphysics simulations. The results show that the porous structure can effectively anchor the phase boundary under microgravity.
